He Can Be Such A Sweetheart At Times

Wow, sometimes my boyfriend can be such a sweetheart. On Monday he gave me the new Beyonce CD along with a card, telling me how much I mean to him! Even though I am not a big fan of her music, this CD really rocks! Especially the “Diva” song. Sometimes he can be a SWEETHEART!

Support Black Colleges!

Even though I did not go to college at Morris Brown, it is really sad when things happen to Historically Black Colleges. Where are the alums? In case you don't know the story, the school was hit with a $380,00.00 water bill which forced the school to close down, luckily the college is break. The school has never had to close it's doors in it's 127 year history. I hope they are able to get this bill paid.

Why Is It So Hard To Find A Plus-Sized Yoga Class in Los Angeles?

So since I am off work for the rest of this week, I decided to look for a Yoga Class for Plus-Sized women, even though my weight loss is going great, I wanted to start doing Yoga on Monday evenings. Well, after searching this morning, I found ZERO classes, which I think SUCKS! Sure LA has a lot of yoga programs and classes, but you think you would be able to find one class for someone who may feel a little strange in a room with so many health consciences people. So since I was unable to find one, I decided to work out with the, “Just My Size With Megan Garcia,” DVD. Once I get comfortable with yoga, I would love to start a class with others, just for plus-sized women!

Happy Holidays!

Why is it so hard for me to blog! I have so many things to talk about. I promise to catch up this week. In case you are wondering! I have lost a total of 48 pounds with my Lap Band. I promise to post new photos and movie reviews. I am so glad that I have had two weeks off! And then to think that I am going to Sundance in a few weeks! life is GREAT! I hope that everyone is having a happy holiday and a great new year.

One More Review

In addition to Noah's Arc: Jumping the Broom, I also got to see the new Lee Daniels’ film, “Tennessee,” which features Mariah Carrey. The film is about two Brothers who set out on a road trip to their childhood home in a desperate search for their father, who may hold the key to their future. Along the way, they are joined by Krystal (Mariah Carey), who is trying to escape a difficult life. These unlikely traveling companions are guided in their mutual journey by the conviction that the only way to a new life is overcoming their past.

The film was ok, and Mariah was great as the character. I love the way that Lee Daniels always ends a film, with a question mark so you never know if there will be a Part 2. I can’t wait to see his next film, “Push,” it is going to screen while I am at Sundance. After the film there was Q&A with Lee Daniels and Mariah Carrey.

Wow! Long Time No Write!

I have had a very busy last two weeks! Here is a rundown:

Production: This week I had the opportunity of attending two different screenings: The first was the new Log Film: Noah’s Ark. This film was about the Logo series about the lives and loves of four gay men living together in Los Angeles.

It picks up where the end of season two left off (So if you are a fan of the show, you will be familiar with the story).

It starts with days before the wedding of Noah & Wade…….. I won't spill all the details but just know that every character has some major issues and love troubles going on including all of the characters from the show: Chance and Eddie deciding if they should stay together or not, the playboy Ricky, who really wants to be loved, and of course Alex with his FINE-ASS Boyfriend Trey.

If you are a fan of the show, you will definitely love the movie. Also after the film I was able to attend a Q&A with the writer/director, Patrik-Ian Polk and the “HOT” Talent actors that were a part of the film, and ladies Jensen Atwood is PERFECT TEN! I saw stars!

Photos Taken Over The Weekend!

Eating Healthy!

As most of you know I recently had Lap Band surgery. I have lost a total of 35 pounds, and I hope to get rid of 15 more pounds before I see my Doctor again before the Christmas Holiday.

Last weekend I was so happy because I found a store that sells Lo-Carbs, that is right here in LA. It is called Lo Carb-U Foods. I would have never guessed that they had a store like that right here in my neighborhood.

I went to buy the following items: The elite uno pizzas... the choclic brownies... the Jalapeno Hummus... I really like this store... I could spend a few hours here. The only problem is that low-carb food is expensive, and I have to make sure that I don’t go over my budget. Still, it's great to get all your low-carb stuff locally, and not online.

Workout Week Schedule Coming!

Quantum of Solace

If you like non-stop action then you will love the new bond movie, “Quantum Of Solace.” I have to admit that I have never been to a Bond Film, so this was my first time going into the World of 007! I actually enjoyed it.

Quantum of Solace is jammed with lots of action and there is never a dull moment in the film.

There are some awesome (do people still say that word), foot chases, fast speed boats, and an aerial pursuit that is very exciting!

New Photo of Me!

I kinda like how I look in this photo. I am standing next to my roommate/business partner's sister.

Laid Back Weekend!

This has to be the first weekend in a while where I did not go to the movies, which means I have nothing to report. I did have a different kind of weekend. Friday after work, I started to crave pizza, but because of the band I did not get any, instead I had a veggie burrito without the bread. It was not that bad... Saturday I found an interesting store that has items to eat that are only low-carb, It is on Melrose and I think it is called U-Carb???????? or something like that. Once I have the correct name I will post it.

Since we are still looking for talent for our feature project, I went on a casting search at Beverly Hills High School. The drama department performed the play, "The Visit," by Friedrich Durrenmatt. It was very interesting and there were several young people that we are inviting to our casting..I hope that we find a young actor soon! I like the audition process, but it would be so much fun to start shooting! This play was also a date for Joshua and I; I am not sure that he enjoyed it because, he was stressed out about everything, but he did say that he had a good time.

Sunday was a great day because I went to a workshop presented by Sammy's Camera on how to operate your camera. As you know I recently purchased a Nikon D80, but I was having a rough time on understanding the various settings. The workshop was very good because now I totally get how my camera works.... Thank God! for this workshop because I was wondering if this camera was worth it!

Also I had pizza! I have to say that the band is great because after two thin slices, I could fill the band getting tight, so I just stopped, and did not even try to finish the second slice. While at the Dr's on Thursday I found out that I can now start back working out and that I lost a total of 35 pounds....I really don't see it, but I can tell that I do feel a lot better. I think this week, I am going to workout doing the following:

Monday: DVD Tape
Tuesday: TBA
Wednesday: Yoga
Thursday: Cardo
Friday: TBA

Wish me luck!

Soul Man! Boy Do I miss the Mac Man!

This film was not the greatest, but it does give you a chance to remember how funny Bernie Mac was!
Samuel Jackson usually brings his serious attitude to the screen but this time we get to see his funny and sweet side. Jackson really brings it to this movie, especially in the parts that Jackson and Mac are singing! Who knew they could? Lots of foul language in the film, but it adds to the film, and gives the characters a raw edge.
This movie is definitely a tribute to Mac and Hayes.

Going Back to the College Years!

Yesterday, while I was at home, I started to go on Youtub and I came across the video below. I can’t believe Christopher Williams, still has it going on….. After watching the video I had to go out and get the CD with all of the songs. I remember when I was in college and my friends and I would listen to his CD, Bell Biv Devo, and Al B Sure.. Just thinking about that made me want to go back to college and re-live those years again! Wow! that was so much fun!

Photos From Party

Happy Birthday To Me!

Wow! I can’t believe that I am about to turn forty! This weekend, I went to Florida to host my mom’s foundation fundraiser, and while I was there, I had a small birthday party with friends. Here are some of the photos from this event. Everyone that attended had a great time. I got to hang out with a lot of family and friends, and even people who I went to high school with. Everyone kept saying that I have lost the weight even if I don't see it. Right now, I am searching for a cookbook that is for Lapband people. If anyone knows of a good book, please let me know.

Where is the Weight Loss?

Sorry, Sorry that I have not been blogging, but I have been trying to adjust to my lap band. In the beginning I lost a total of twenty pounds, but currently my weight is staying the same, and I am not dropping like I was in the beginning. I know that I am eating better, because I am watching everything that I eat, and I am trying to make sure that I don't drink any coke, or eat any bread. Wow! I can't believe that I have not had coke since September 30, 2008. It has been water and Crystal Light for me. Next week, I am going to start to walk and move around again. Here is a photo of me twenty pounds lighter!

Where is Elisia

Wow! I can't beleive that I have been out of site! As if you did not know, I recenlty had lapband surgery and I had to adjust to so many new things to eat. I am so afraid that I am going to gain the weight back, that I have been eating like a bird. So on Wednesday, I got over finally the liquid portion, and now I am on the pureered portion, which is a lot better than the liquid portion. I lost 20 pounds so far, but I fell like I am gaining them back even though I am eating very lightly. Today, I had a yogurt drink for lunch, a can of tuna with lite mayo, and I will probably have some black beans and cheese for dinner. I kinda feel bad because I am having a hard time watching my drinking. With the lap band you are suppose to not drink 30 mins before an dafter you eat, but I have been feeling so thirsty that I had to drink, I know that is wrong so I really have to watch it. More updates to come.

Miracle at St. Anna

Miracle at St. Anna chronicles the story of four black American soldiers who are members of the US Army as part of the all-black 92nd “Buffalo Soldier” Division stationed in Tuscany, Italy during World War II.

They experience the tragedy and triumph of the war as they find themselves trapped behind enemy lines and separated from their unit after one of them risks his life to save an Italian boy.

Wow! I can’t believe this film was so long, but I was up to the very end. I would like to commend Director Spike Lee for finally showing us what some African American soldiers had to endure during the war. The film was very refreshing to me because it did not really show a lot of Lee’s views and opinions, but instead it showed what a group of African American soldiers had to do to survive during the war. I always wanted to know how African-American soldiers felt during the war while they were serving our country, and in this film Lee gives an idea of what they had to do during that time.

My Saturday!

So I am back on schedule. Here are some of the photos that I took today below. Here is the first photo I did while trying to work in photoshop. Not too bad for someone just starting out.

Look At My Friend Stephanie!

So this weekend, I continued to play with my camera. I had my friend Stephanie come over, to take a couple of photos. She is a Personal Trainer. Look at her ABS! If you need a trainer, hit me up for her information. This girl is definitely the real deal. Also if anyone is interested in being a model for me, please contact me.

Lakeview Terrace Rocks!

This film reminded me of 1990 classic Pacific Heights with Melanie Griffith and Matthew Modine. It had a little “creepy” field, but never the less it was very “Hollywood.”

The story was about a young couple (Patrick Wilson and Kerry Washington) who has just moved into their California dream home when they become the target of their next-door neighbor, who disapproves of their interracial relationship.

What was so interesting about this story is the way they make the Samuel Jackson’s character disliked by everyone in the entire move; including his kids. I mean Hollywood made him such a villain that you had nothing to do, but dislike his character. I mean they could have made him have on good relationship, but he was not liked by anyone.

Apart from Jackson, the cast seems to work very well together. Patrick Wilson is a preppie white boy, perfectly fit for the role of the husband; he even enjoys hip-hop music But it is the role of the wife played by, Kerry Washington who really brings the movie together. She has come a long way from “Save The Last Dance.” After she played in “Ray,” her career took another course. In the role of Lisa, she is the most likeable character it seems in the film and shows lots of emotion.

I recommend seeing this movie! It is also produced by Will Smith.

Cute Photo!

I recently brought the Nikon D80, and I took this photo of my boyfriend's nephew holding my cute little dog.. What do you think?

ONE MORE AVERAGE FILM!

Babylon A.D.
It is a very sad day when a director can’t even say anything great about his own film.
Film had lots of average violence, and that was about it! As I like to say, “It is what it is”!

MIRRORS! Where Have All The Horror Films Gone???????

Since I had last Monday off I decided to hang out with my roommate and catch the film, “Mirror.” I really wanted this to be a good flick for Kiefer Sutherland because he was playing opposite of what of the most beautiful women on film Paula Patton (hot husband Robin Thick), but this was a no go! The entire film was very predicable and to top it off t was not even SCARRY!

Synopsis: Kiefer Sutherland stars as a disgraced former cop who attempts to put his checkered past behind him by taking a job as a security...While being the night watchmen lots of strange things begin to happen at the place…

The plot is very, very DUMD! Need I say more?

Nothing horror worthy about this film..

Bangkok Dangerous = Bangkok Boring

Wow! I am back in effect! There was not a lot of action this weekend, at the movie theatre but I did check out the new Nick Cage Flick:

Can you guys remember Nick in the early stages or middle stages of his career? He was an outstanding “A” list actor, but the last two films, National Treasure and the (YUCK), film, Ghost Rider, have really been pushing him down. This film was a little boring with a very weird ending, that I did not get at all. The movie was very typical about a hit man trying to complete his last job without feeling anything! Cage needs to use his clout as an actor and producer to make hands-on-down-and-dirty B-movies, that will crank him to Oscar status. This movie was very BORING!

Does This Logo Look Like My Mom?

This is a cartoon of my mother that we are going to use as our foundation's new logo. Let me know what you think. To see the old logo go to: barbaraseniorsharkinsfoundation.org....

WOW!

I am so sorry! I hate it when I can't blog!!!!!!!!!! It has been a long time, things have been happening a little fast and crazy at the same time, but I think everything has slowed down at this time..Thank God! So let me give an update:

The House:
I was able to get someone to rent it out, so I can sleep good for a while. The new person seems nice, so I really, really hope that it works out. They have not called me which I think should be a good thing! I can’t believe that a person has to do so much when they have a house. It is a enough to make you go CRAZY! But I can’t believe I survived..And to think a few weeks ago, I so did not want to rent the house out, but now I am cool about it.

Filmmaking:

Best Kept Secret: The film had a great run! So many people had a chance to see it! I am so glad. My hometown newspaper in Florida did a story about it, which I will post here as soon as I get time to scan it….

Dating Over Fifty Project: We just got all of the art work done, and now we are about to go into pre-production planning meetings so I am sure that the month of September will be a lot of meetings.

OTPS: Well, the On The Plus Side Project is dead! I am a little happy and sad at the same time because I am finding out that I am person who likes to keep things going and when I have down time, it is so hard to go back to a project. It is a great concept, but I think there are so many shows out there like it, that we really have to have an idea that will make it pop! And make people want to watch it!

MLT: We are still have auditions, who would have thought it would be so hard to get kids to come out???????????Also why are their agents CRAZY! My business partner calls so many a day, and they never call back….It makes you wonder why there are so many actors who can’t find work or maybe their agents are not sending them out for calls. I am about to apply for two film grants and submit our stuff to the Hollywood Reporter. Now that we are done with all of the paperwork, I can tell you the name of the book,so you can check it out: My Loose Thread, by Dennis Cooper. If you get time to read it.. Let me know what you think….

Movies:
I don’t have any reviews to post because I have not been attending the movies. Sorry, I am slacking! But that will change soon, I am getting back out there this weekend.

That is it for now.. Tomorrow I am going to tell you about the cool toy I brought this summer.

CRAP!

I did it again! I got behind in Blogging!!!!!! I so hate that when it happens.. I promise to catch up this week! So much is going on!

Saturday, July 26, 2008

BUSY! BUSY!

Wow! I did it again! I did not want to get behind in blogging but I did! Well, here is what is going on. My film aired on BETV-J last week. What a great feeling to see something that you worked on actually play on the big screen! It was such a big deal that my hometown newspaper, “The South Dade News Leader,” published a front-paged story about it. I am going to scan it when I get home and put it on the blog. So at the present time, I am in the process of renting out my house in Florida, and I got someone to rent it all in ONE DAY! I am so Blessed! With the economy all messed up, I thought that it would take me forever to get someone. The good thing she is going to rent it with some of the furniture in it, so I won’t have to move everything out of it. So for the next few weeks, I will be getting the house ready for her to move in. On another note, my mom’s foundation finally got a grant writer to help us with get some money. I am so ready for this to happen. It has been a long haul in getting this foundation off the ground but I fill like this might be the year that everything happens.

What was Will Thinking?

I just saw the worst Will Smith film, since Bad Boys II, which was just a very sad story. The concept of the story is very good: A Super Hero who no one loves, but the story was just something that was RUSHED together, just to have two powerful actors to make a number one movie, during a weekend that was very slow with interesting new releases. For some strange reason the two main characters don’t even make the movie but Jason Bateman and the little kid who plays his son are very funny!

The funny thing about this flick, is that there have been a lot of Super Hero films, but this one does look at it a different way because in the beginning no one likes Hancock, but with the help if Bateman’s character he is able to change that. If you want to do something fun this weekend, don’t go see this. WAIT FOR THE BAT! I am sure that is going to be a WINNER!

WHAT A WEEK!

So this week was GREAT! My BF came to visit me from New York, and we really had a great time! Here is a breakdown of what happen:

Tuesday Night: Dinner at Jerry’s Deli, followed by cookies from Diddie Reese. If you have not had cookies from this little place in Westwood, I think you should go by there. Where can you still get a dozen of BIG cokkies for $3.75?

Wednesday Night: Ok, so this was the worst night ever. After being at the hair stylist late, and my friend was at an acting class, we the headed down to Hollywood to attend: the R&B LIVE Event at Cinnespace. Once there we found out that it was a private event ONLY! Why dosent’ their website say that, (http://www.rnblivehollywood.com/) and when I made reservations on the phone, the young lady did not say anything about that. So much for getting into the event, however it did look like something interesting to do on a Wednesday evening, but the prices are vvery high, so remember to make a reservation.

Other Days were spent going out to dinner with other friends, and just relaxing. The best thing that we did was the SPA at Burke Williams. If you have not had a chance to spa there, you have to do it! I suggest the Seaweed Wrap. After that wrap I felt like a new baby was born! (ttp://www.burkewilliamsspa.com/) All and all I had a great time, and I almost did not want my friend to leave, but hopefully she will be moving out here soon!

Next thing up! My other friend is celebrating her birthday on Tuesday, so I will be going back to Massage Garage for another SPA DAY! WOW THE LUCK!

THIS WAS THE BEST WEEK EVER! NOT DOING ANYTHING THAT RELATED TO WORK!

GET SMART + Steve Carell, + Anne Hathaway = GET DUMB!

My boyfriend was a big "Get Smart" fan and really was looking forward to the film, but after seeing this he said he would have loved to watch the old re-runs instead. I never even watch the series, but I was curios to see what it was about.

It is sad that the film does not live up to the TV show and even with the humor of Steve Carell, The Rock, Alan Arkin, Terence Stampand, and several others, I still did not find this film enough to write home about. Save your $10.00, and wait for it to come out on DVD.
